Just some opinions.

My opinions on non-anime related cosplay and goods at anime conventions.

Stuff regarding it has just popped up on my dash and I do have strong opinions and feel like expressing them.  My roommate doesn’t agree with me, so I can’t talk to him about it.  And I’m trying to avoid messengers to get work done, so that’s out too.  BUT I WANT TO PUT DOWN MY FEELS BECAUSE I HAVE THEM OKAY.

Feel free to not read or ignore.  I just want to talk to talk.

I think saying that non-anime related things don’t belong at anime conventions is ridiculous.  I think saying cosplay is for anime only is ridiculous.

Anime conventions are, yes, primarily for anime.  And because of this they always will be.  But anime conventions are mostly a place for anime-fans to come together, dress up together, and buy anime merchandise.  But anime fans can be fans of video games, cartoons, movies, webcomics, etc, too!  And maybe, while they’re at a convention, they want to cosplay one of these and find people who like it and anime at the same time.

I love anime conventions and their culture.  And I think if someone wants to cosplay a super hero, or Pyramid Head, or a troll, adventurer, pony, etc—that they should!  And I can see their cosplay and respect it and think it’s really cool, even if it’s not something I like.  And I think anime conventions have also evolved from when they first started, and that people should accept this change and be happy with it.

Because it is so much easier to say ‘wow I don’t like that show/comic/game/etc, but I can see that their cosplay is great and I’m glad they’re having fun here!’ than it is to get worked up and angry over it.  It just makes for a happier time if you don’t let it bother you, too!

Because, really, if anime conventions were meant to be ONLY ANIME the convention staff would make a rule for it.  Or post something on how it’s more polite and proper to cosplay only anime.  Or something.  But they don’t.  They allow it and think it’s cool for people to cosplay whatever they want so long as they come there liking anime.  And I think everyone else should feel this way too!

If you don’t agree with me, that’s fine.  And I won’t say you’re bad or look down on you or anything—you have ALL the right to have your opinion.  But this is mine, and I still think it makes for a happier experience if you just accept that they’re not hurting anyone or doing anything truly wrong, even if their cosplay isn’t exactly anime—at least they’re having fun, which is important.  For yourself, why not just look away and continue having fun, too?
